Features of Ocean Freight

LCL CARGO: LESS THAN CONTAINER LOAD

The term “Less than Container Load” (LCL) refers to the transportation of smaller ocean freight shipments that do not require the full capacity of a container. Often called a “consolidated container,” LCL shipping is a practical and cost-effective option for moving goods that are too small to fill an entire container. This flexible shipping method allows businesses to send smaller, non-urgent shipments between major ports worldwide, offering a more affordable alternative to Full Container Load (FCL) shipments.
One of the key advantages of LCL is the ability to ship goods as soon as they are ready, without waiting for a full container. However, with LCL, your cargo shares space with other shipments, which means you don’t have control over what other goods are being transported alongside yours. Additionally, delays can occasionally occur due to the shared nature of the container, as the transit of other parties’ cargo may impact the overall schedule.

FCL CARGO: FULL CONTAINER LOAD

An FCL (Full Container Load) shipment refers to when a single customer rents an entire container, with no need to share space with other cargo. In this case, the entire container is dedicated exclusively to the goods of one shipper. FCL shipping is similar to Full Truckload (FTL) transport, but applied to ocean freight, where the entire container is filled with a single shipment.
FCL is ideal for large or valuable shipments, as the goods occupy the full capacity of the container. A typical FCL shipment could consist of six pallets in a 20-foot container or twelve pallets in a 40-foot container, though container sizes can vary.
One of the main benefits of FCL is that your goods are securely transported without the risk of contamination or damage from other cargo. Since the entire container is reserved for your shipment, there’s less handling and less chance for delays. Additionally, FCL shipments tend to be faster, as they move directly from the origin to the destination without the need for consolidation or deconsolidation at intermediary ports.

OPEN TOP CONTAINER

At Crown International, we lead the industry when it comes to the use of open-top containers, offering unparalleled flexibility and functionality to ensure the safe and secure transport of your cargo. Our fleet is one of the largest in the business, equipped with open-top containers designed to handle a wide range of dry freight.

Our open-top containers are ideal for transporting oversized or heavy items, including steel bars, industrial equipment, pipes, cables, timber, machinery, and mining resources like ore. These containers are built with unique structural features that allow for easy loading, unloading, and secure transport of your goods.
One standout feature is the detachable roof bows, which provide added stability during loading and unloading, as well as during transport. These roof bows also serve as support for the tarps that cover the container, ensuring that your cargo is well-protected from the elements. Whether you’re moving large, bulky items or sensitive materials, our open-top containers offer the reliability and performance you need.

FLAT RACK CARGO CONTAINER

As a trusted leader in freight forwarding, Crown International  partners with a select network of suppliers to deliver state-of-the-art flat rack container solutions. Our flat racks are designed with specialized safety features, making the loading and unloading of irregularly shaped cargo simple and secure. They are ideal for transporting heavy or oversized items such as machinery, pipes, and equipment that require top or side loading.

We offer a range of flat rack options, including collapsible and non-collapsible containers, with or without side walls, depending on your specific cargo requirements. For added security, we can also supply lashing winches and lashing belts to ensure your goods are properly secured during transport. If necessary, we can provide stanchions to further stabilize and protect your load. At Crown International, we tailor our flat rack solutions to suit the unique needs of your shipment, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of your goods.
